19-09-An article about Buffalo Soldiers

''Buffalo'' picks bad time to satirize military

18-09-Rory Culkin, the youngest member of the acting clan, has been set to star with Mel Gibson and Joaquin Phoenix in ``Signs,'' the M. Night Shyamalan drama which is about to go into production at Touchstone.

Here an unofficial site for Sings fro the UK  http://www.signsmovie.co.uk/news.html

From that unofficial site: Apparently Mark Ruffalo's role called for intensive sports training, which he was not up to following the recent removal of a minor cyst from his inner ear. So I guess Joaquin Phoenix is down the gym as I type!

Cast and crew are now on location in Bucks County. Filming started as scheduled on Thursday 13th Sept unaffected by recent tragic events. The shoot was meant to be launched on Weds 12th with a low key local press conference in Philadelphia with Shymalan, Gibson and Phoenix in attendance but this was canceled in light of recent events.

16-09-Hollywood, Finding a New Reality

Will audiences still want to watch good guys fight terrorists? Studios tread nervously in the wake of national devastation.

Certainly movies like one just bought by Miramax at the Toronto Film Festival, "Buffalo Soldiers" -- an edgy film about a group of dope-smoking, heroin-shooting U.S. soldiers in Germany, described as "Pulp Fiction" meets "Three Kings" -- may quickly fall out of favor.

Don't trifle with Phoenix
The star of Buffalo Soldiers doesn't take well to blocked doors

Joaquin Phoenix gets mad, Miranda Richardson turns coy, and Keanu Reeves turns into a puddle. Just another day in the neighbourhood.

Let's grab our Let's Go guides and start the tour: I spotted Joaquin in the dark, cavernous space of the Left Bank Saturday night, where he was celebrating his movie Buffalo Soldiers. Looking as sensational (those cheekbones are sonnet-worthy) and as comfortable (that old sneakers-and-suit routine) as ever, the young Hollywood star got a little testy when a doorman wouldn't let him into the club's private VIP area.

"But we're actors," he pleaded, as his co-star, the doe-eyed Anna Paquin, looked on. Not compelled was the bouncer by this argument, as the Gladiator star looked more and more like he wanted to feed the chap to the lions.

"He's not letting you in?" I asked Joaquin, astonished. (I, uh, happened to be standing near him.)

"No," he responded, pointing to his nemesis. "That guy's an a--hole."

Duly noted.

RICHARDSON'S SECRET LUNCH

Miranda Richardson has a beacon of a smile. I ran into her at Rain shortly before the Joaquin kerfuffle. She liked my black Moleskin notebook, so we discussed the ins and outs of stationery for a couple of minutes. Very, very nice, this Brit thespian.

She's in town filming the newest Cronenberg flick, which is shrouded in secrecy. When I asked if she could give me a little, teeny scoop, she simply replied: "Stay tuned. It ain't no Naked Lunch, though."

I was at Rain, by the way, for the party for No Man's Land, a movie you'll be hearing a lot about come Oscar time. It's a Slovenian flick, and a super-shoo-in for best foreign picture.

ANY POST: "Inqlings" section by Michael Klien on page D2 again. It says: Actor Joaquin Phoenix and sister Liberty Butterfly played baseball yesterday in Fairmount Park. Nice day, right? Shooting is scheduled to start today on Signs, the M. Night Shyamalan flick pairing Mel Gibson and Joaquin.
